ABOUT
Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Connal is a self-taught photographer based in London.
Taking inspiration from the psychological undercurrents of the urban environment, he is particularly drawn to capturing atmospheric moments that resist easy interpretation.
His street work seeks to explore mood and feeling rather than provide an immediate, literal narrative. Through use of perspective, geometry, light and shadow, occlusion and layered compositions, Connal’s photography aims to slow perception. By frequently prioritising psychological and emotional resonance over clarity, he uses the medium as a means of suggestion rather than description.
Alongside this, Connal documents protests, marches, and events as they unfold, work concerned less with mood than with witness: an unflinching record of moments where people gather to be seen and heard.
All work made exclusively with a single fixed lens 28mm Leica camera.
